20 Feb How to make your dream life happen faster.
It’s Saturday night and I’ve just returned home from doing my weekly shop at Wholefoods. 7 days of breakfasts, fairtrade organic coffee beans, ingredients for one week’s worth of soup, seven healthy dinners, an organic raw diet for my dog for the week, household items and a few little treats like bath salts and dark chocolate comes in around £138 per week.
Just a few short years ago, I would never have allowed myself to spend this much on food per week, and yet my Saturday night would have involved spending the same amount on booze, partying, taxis, takeaways and regret.
I would’ve shopped at a lower end supermarket which aren’t bothered about whether food is organic, and where there are more aisles of plastic foil wrappers than there are aisles of fruit and veg, and where I’d be tricked into buying two of sugary shit I don’t need because they’re bogof.
I shopped there because I believed that being pissed on a Saturday night, sore on a Sunday morning, and shopping somewhere low-end and low-vibe was all I was good for. I believed that I was on that wavelength and so I was.
In my dream life, amongst other things, I have a ranch in Colorado where I keep horses and chickens. I get fresh eggs from the chookie-hens every morning and I grow my own vegetables abundantly. It’s fun, earthy and simple living that is nourishing me and the planet, and I have all the time, health and wealth to get on with it in peace.
A few years ago, that dream seemed so far away that I didn’t even bother trying to make it happen. I just did what most other people were doing, boozing at the weekend and shopping at the UK equivalent of Walmart.
But the more I’ve learned about helping spiritual practitioners grow their businesses, and create the amazing lives they deserve, the more I’ve realized that I myself have to be at a certain vibration – a certain level of insistence on excellence in my life, if I’m to truly be of service to them. It’s not enough that I’m able to ask the right questions to get them to see the path to their own success, I have to be walking my talk, leading by example, and living my own version of success too!
I didn’t even know there was a Wholefoods in Glasgow until 2013 when I went to San Diego and visited their Wholefoods, only to google it and discover there was one just up the road from my flat! My vibe had been so far away from organic nourishment that it had literally avoided my awareness! But when Gabe and I returned from California, we made a beeline for our local Wholefoods and ‘dabbled’ in organic produce, going there from time to time, whenever we could afford it.
I had a total revelation in the shower a few weeks ago as I was thinking about my dream life. I realized that, right now, Wholefoods isn’t just about eating organically and consciously – going to Wholefoods is a fun, high-vibe, rewarding and stimulating experience that’s on the same vibration as my dream life, and that in making shopping at Wholefoods optional, I was making my dream life optional.
Shit I thought, why am I doing that? Why am I making something optional that’s really important to me and part of my value system?
I could find no good reason so I decided, right there and then, standing butt ass nekkid in the shower, that shopping organically and ethically is no longer optional. It’s worth the extra investment of my time and money. My boyfriend is worth it, my dog is worth it, and so am I. Shopping organically is an act of love in my value system and I’d been denying love to myself by denying myself this experience.
I saw, then, that the door to my dream life has always been open to me, I was just choosing not to step through it.
So although I may not be in a position to invest in a ranch and Colorado just yet, and I haven’t yet learned to farm my own vegetables, I have brought more of that energy – the energy of organic produce, the energy of wealth, abundance and love, and the energy of the life I desire, into my existence right now. Right here. Today.
What I’ve discovered is that if you want to make your dream life happen faster, you can start making it happen now, just by making a small number of conscious, different choices in the direction of your dreams. Is there somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit? Do some research online and price your dream trip. Do you want to live somewhere other than you are? Visit the area that makes your heart sing and get into its vibe. Do you want to earn a million dollars? Start spending time around people who know how to do this.
What amazed me was that as soon as I decided that our budget MUST accommodate a weekly shop at Wholefoods, it did. It just expanded to fill the requirement. The key, I think, was in deciding it was no longer optional.
As soon as you make your dream life a MUST and start acting towards it in whatever way is available to you right now, you’ll realize you don’t have to wait in lack – everything you deserve is available to you right now, if you’ll reach out and take it.
” I bargained with life for a penny,
And Life would pay no more,
However I begged at evening
When I counted my scanty store.
For Life is a just employer,
He gives you what you ask,
But once you have set the wages,
Why, you must bear the task.
I worked for a menial’s hire,
Only to learn, dismayed,
That any wage I had asked of Life,
Life would have willingly paid”
